Do you have this kind of "dark" career? Here's why now is change time.
My friend works for a well-known divorce lawyer and the phone is ringing off the hook at their office.
People finally deciding to call it quits.
Not the sunniest of Covid "shelter in place" outcomes, but every one of those calls are from people who've been sitting on the fence and avoiding making a choice for who knows how long.
Civil lockdown inspired civil liberation.
One week, two-times a year Bill Gates goes to a cabin in the woods with a big, white canvas bag full of new books.
He spends an uninterrupted week thinking and reading.
No phone, Internet and no contact.
Another alleged brainiac guru I know advises: don't read 10 new books read one amazingly good and useful book 10 times.
This actually works well.
Right now, I’m rereading Steven Pressfield’s Turning Pro - How to Tap Into Your Inner Power and Create Your Life’s Work, and stumbled across this segment I wish I’d written:
“In the shadow life, we live in denial and we act by addiction.
We pursue challenges that take us nowhere and permit ourselves to be controlled by compulsions that we cannot understand (or are not aware of) and whose outcomes serve only to keep up caged, unconscious and going nowhere.
The shadow life is the life of the amateur. In the shadow life we pursue false objects and act upon inverted ambitions.
The shadow life, the life of the amateur and the addict is not benign.
The longer we cleave to this life, the farther we drift from our true purpose, and the hard it becomes for us to rally the courage to get back.”
Some would argue now's not the time to go for that big goal, dream, vision that paces on your horizon.
Now is the perfect time. Here's why:

1. No need to explain. The whole world just got kicked into a paradigm shift. The door of change has been flung open. You can run through it without explaining or justifying.
2. The “old” rules are going or gone. Those with enough courage can make and live by new ones.
3. “Normal” is disappearing and a new normal will form. That can happen for you, too. If you couldn’t get what you wanted before, you can try again now.
The cool, thin air of the tumultuous right now comes unexpectedly and never stays long. It passes like storm or a season.
While it’s here, you can hit the ball with force that normally would give you a single. However, in the rarified atmosphere of right now, you'll score a triple with the same effort.
And if you’ve read this far, you’re probably the kind of bad@ss who can steal home from there.
Batter up.

The best thing you can do for your career is help someone else with theirs.
